Author Guidelines

Introduction

The Islamic Studies and Education Journal (ISEJ) publishes high-quality, original scholarly works that advance knowledge in Islamic studies, education, and related interdisciplinary fields. The journal welcomes rigorous empirical research, theoretical and conceptual studies, systematic reviews, and policy-oriented analyses that demonstrate scholarly significance and international relevance.

Submission of a manuscript implies that the work is original, has not been published previously, is not under consideration by another journal, and complies with the journal's editorial and ethical policies.

Authors are encouraged to read these guidelines carefully before submitting their manuscripts.

1. Scope of Submission

Before submission, authors should ensure that their manuscript falls within the journal's Aim & Scope.

Manuscripts that do not match the journal's scope may be declined during the initial editorial assessment without external peer review.

2. Article Types

ISEJ considers the following categories of manuscripts:

  • Original Research Articles
  • Review Articles
  • Conceptual or Theoretical Papers
  • Case Studies
  • Short Communications

All submissions must present a clear scholarly contribution, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal's scope.

3. Submission Process

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's Online Journal System (OJS).

The Editorial Office does not accept submissions by email.

For double-blind peer review, authors must ensure that the manuscript file contains no identifying information. Author names, affiliations, acknowledgements, funding details, and self-identifying references should be provided only in the designated metadata fields during submission.

4. Manuscript Preparation

Language

Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise, and grammatically correct academic English.

Authors are responsible for ensuring language quality before submission.

Format

Manuscripts must be prepared using the official journal template and submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format.

Length

Research and conceptual papers are generally expected to be between 6,000 and 10,000 words, including references. Longer manuscripts may be considered where justified by their scholarly contribution.

5. Manuscript Structure

A typical manuscript should include the following components:

  • Title
  • Abstract (150–250 words)
  • Keywords (3–6)
  • Introduction
  • Literature Review (where appropriate)
  • Methodology
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgements (optional)
  • Funding Statement (if applicable)
  • Conflict of Interest Statement
  • References

The structure may vary depending on the article type.

6. Tables, Figures, and Supplementary Materials

Tables and figures should be clearly numbered, titled, and cited in the text.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted materials.

Supplementary materials should be clearly identified and submitted separately where appropriate.

Authors are encouraged to provide supporting datasets, research instruments, or additional materials that enhance the transparency and reproducibility of the research.

7. Citation and References

The journal follows the APA 7th Edition referencing style.

Authors should:

  • ensure that all citations are accurate and complete;
  • cite relevant and up-to-date scholarly literature;
  • include DOI information where available;
  • use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote.

Authors are solely responsible for the accuracy of all references.

8. Research Ethics and Publication Ethics

Authors are expected to uphold the highest standards of research integrity and publication ethics.

Submission of a manuscript confirms that:

  • the work is original;
  • all sources have been properly acknowledged;
  • the manuscript has not been published or submitted elsewhere;
  • all listed authors have approved the submitted version;
  • any required ethical approval has been obtained.

The journal follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices.

9. Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions to the conception or design of the study, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or manuscript preparation.

All authors must approve the final manuscript before submission.

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after submission or acceptance require written justification and approval from both the Editorial Office and all co-authors.

10. Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, professional, or personal relationships that could influence the interpretation or presentation of their research.

11. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools may be used to support language editing, grammar improvement, or manuscript formatting.

Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, validity, and integrity of the manuscript.

AI systems or generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors.

Any substantial use of AI during manuscript preparation should be appropriately disclosed.

12. Research Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to make the data supporting their findings available whenever possible.

Where research data cannot be shared due to ethical, legal, confidentiality, or proprietary restrictions, authors should provide an appropriate explanation.

13. Similarity Screening

All submitted manuscripts undergo similarity screening using recognized plagiarism detection software before peer review.

Manuscripts exhibiting evidence of plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, falsification, or other forms of research misconduct may be rejected without further consideration.

14. Peer Review

All submissions undergo an initial editorial assessment followed by a double-blind peer review conducted by at least two independent reviewers.

Editorial decisions are based on originality, scientific quality, methodological rigor, significance, and relevance to the journal.

15. Copyright and Open Access

Upon acceptance, authors retain copyright in accordance with the journal's copyright policy while granting the journal the right of first publication.

Articles are published under the journal's Open Access Policy and applicable licensing terms.

16. Article Processing Charges

Information regarding publication fees, waivers, and payment procedures is available on the Article Processing Charges (APC) page.

No publication fee is requested before a manuscript has received an official acceptance decision.

17. After Acceptance

Accepted manuscripts undergo editorial production, including copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, and final author approval prior to publication.

Authors are responsible for reviewing and approving page proofs within the specified timeframe.

18. Disclaimer

The views and opinions expressed in published articles are solely those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Editorial Board, the Publisher, or affiliated institutions.
